Diversity Visa Lottery Winners 2025 Announced: How To Check The Results And What To Do Next

The US Department of State has announced the 2025 Diversity Visa lottery winners. 55,000 of the millions who participated in the lottery last year have been chosen to apply for the status of permanent resident.

What Is The Green Card (Diversity Visa) Lottery?

For foreign nationals from nations with historically low immigration rates to the United States, the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program (DV lottery) offers the chance to obtain a green card and permanent residency there. Applicants who would not otherwise have a path to legal immigration in the United States frequently use the program. There is no entry fee, and the entry process is as easy as filling out an online form.

What Is The Visa Lottery For Diversity?

Participants should go to the State Department website’s “DV Entrant Status Check” portal to see if they have been chosen. Foreign nationals can check their status on the website by entering the confirmation details they were sent when they registered for the visa lottery.

What It Means To Win The DV Lottery (And What It Doesn’t)

The lottery selection process does not ensure that an applicant will be granted a green card; rather, it only indicates that the applicant may apply for a diversity visa.

If chosen, candidates must finish the green card application process to demonstrate their eligibility for entry into the United States. The actual procedure entails submitting Form DS-260, the online application for an immigrant visa, paying any necessary government filing fees, and appearing in person for a visa interview at a U.S. Embassy or consulate.

Qualification For The DV Lottery

Up to 55,000 green cards will be made available through the DV lottery to citizens of specific nations with historically low rates of immigration to the United States in the 2025 fiscal year. This will be done through a random computer-based selection process.

Regretfully, citizens of certain nations with high immigration rates to the United States are ineligible to register. Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (including Hong Kong Special Administrative Region), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea (South Korea), Venezuela, and Vietnam are a few of these countries. Taiwanese and Macau SAR natives who are foreign nationals are eligible to play the lottery.

One significant modification to the eligibility for DV-2025 is that, for the first time in many years, citizens of the United Kingdom and its dependent territories can apply.

Note that foreign nationals who are unable to register, because their own country of birth is on the above-excluded list, may still be able to participate through a qualifying spouse who was born in one of the participating countries or, in certain situations, through the country of birth of a parent.

The applicant must also fulfill the educational OR employment requirements of the DV lottery. The applicant must have successfully finished “a 12-year course of formal elementary and secondary school” to meet the educational requirement.

The applicant must have completed at least two years of work experience within the last five years to meet the work requirement; additionally, the work experience must come from a field in which at least two years of training or experience are necessary to perform.

Verify the results of the Diversity Visa (Green Card) Lottery

  • The names of the 2025 DV Lottery winners can be accessed between May 4, 2024, and September 30, 2025.
  • The 2024 lottery results are accessible through September 30, 2024.

Remember to use your confirmation number to verify the lottery results online.

Be aware that:

  • You won’t receive a letter or email from the Department of State informing you of your selection. Refer to the above fraud warning.
  • You do not automatically get a visa if you win the DV Lottery. Being selected entitles you to advance through the DV Program.

How to proceed if you win the DV Lottery

If you meet the requirements and are chosen in the DV Lottery, you can apply for an immigrant visa. If accepted, you would be granted entry into the country, permanent residency, and a Green Card.

Log in to the Immigrant/Diversity Visa portal to apply for a visa.

Complete Form DS-260, the application for an immigrant visa, and submit it online. Get more information about Form DS-260 before submitting it.

Following your application, you might get an email from a U.S. embassy or consulate setting up an interview. Find out how to get ready for the interview.

You will find out from your interviewer whether or not you are granted an immigrant visa. Find out more about the following steps that follow an interview, such as

  • What to do if your visa application is accepted or rejected
  • How to get into America.
  • What occurs upon obtaining your Green Card, or Permanent Resident Card

Take Prompt Action
